Experimenting with spoken word, sound, & visual.

DRKMTR was born in Sophie’s front room in yr Wyddgrug, North Wales, when Steve dropped in for a brew and they decided to jam. Within a few days the DRKMTR concept album was born as Sophie’s poetry wove its way throughout Steve’s music. Ranging from the beautifully cinematic to unashamed krautrock noise, DRKMTR’s evolution was as organic as it was unexpected.

Fusing two contrasting philosophies, one from myths of ancient times, one from cutting-edge scientific theory, DRKMTR asks what it is we see when the lights go out? Where is the truth behind the darkness?

DRKMTR’s The Wild Hunt featured on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and was the opening track on From The Mourning of The World, curated by Marmaduke Dando for Dark Mountain. A lavish double-gatefold pressed onto heavyweight vinyl, limited to only 500 copies and featuring artists such as: The General Assembly, Chris Wood, Jon Boden, and Bethia Beadman.

“Starkly stoic and troubling choices sit consanguine with jauntier, bawdry and wistful kooky balladry. Bleakly setting the scene, DRKMTR’s biblical augury The Wild Hunt, is a disturbing introduction. Describing in a somnambulant state the caustic pastoral landscape, bedecked with a ominous ‘pale horse’, ‘false prophet’ and creepy chthonian other, this tale sounds like a missing passage from Aphrodite’s Child’s ‘antichrist superstar’ 666 opus, and is thankfully the darkest it gets…”
